Tony Denmead and Dick Lumsden have won the first Seniors knockout event of the year – beating Steve Tree and Colin Pottle 3 and 1 in the final of the Winter Pairs.
Playing on the Constable Course, Tony and Dick took the first two holes for an early lead, but Colin and Steve fought back, winning the third, halving the fourth and then winning the fifth when Steve chipped in for a birdie 2.
Colin and Steve got their noses in front by winning the sixth, and it stayed that way until the turn.
But it was back to all square after the 10th and then the lead changed hands again when Tony and Dick won the 11th. It was all square again after the 14th and looking like it might go down to the wire.
But as the holes started to run out, Tony and Dick won 15, 16 and 17 (including a birdie on 16 from Tony after almost driving the green and seeing his chip for an eagle hit the pin).
It was handshakes all round on the 17th green. A very close match, played in great spirit.
