From November 1 this year, golf in Essex will be administered by one single body for both Men and Ladies.
Essex Golf Union, and Essex Ladies County Golf Association, representing members at every club in Essex, received overwhelming support for the unification at their Annual General Meetings held this week.
First to vote was the ELCGA meeting, with more than 140 people in attendance, including SbN members; County Captain Elaine Davidson, Ladies Captain Jill Pottle, Lesley Hitchcock, Bev Ellender, Fran Chandler and Lesley Garnett. Jill Pottle cast the SbN vote in favour of the merger.
Also present at the ladies AGM was EGU President Nick McEvoy and President Elect Steve Clark from SbN who will be the first to head up the joint association.
Steve and Elaine were also present at the EGU annual meeting, where Steve cast SbN’s vote in favour of the unification and the proposal was carried with only one club voting against.
For most of the remainder of 2025, both associations will operate separately while transition admin is completed, and on November 1 Essex County Golf will be launched properly with the financial assets of both organisations being merged under the management of a new Board of Directors.
