The Stoke by Nayland Resort is shortly to announce the formation of a Golf Academy – more news of this will be forthcoming in the next few weeks.
The long-term plan is to get more people – especially juniors – into golf via coaching and sessions at the Golf Driving Range. Ideally, as these new players become more proficient, they will funnel through into joining the Golf Club and participating as members in the Men’s, Ladies and Juniors sections.
But even as plans are being finalised, SbN was invited to enter a junior team into the inaugural Essex Golf Sixes competition.
Fielding a team of six juniors, and led by Golf Membership Manager Harry Hibbert, Stoke travelled to Frinton to play in a tournament with Colchester, Colne Valley and host club Frinton.
The format was 2 ball Texas Scrambles over six holes and Stoke finished second behind Colchester with a team total of 117 points.
The full results were:
1. Colchester 127
2. Stoke 117
3. Frinton A 117
4. Colne Valley 116
5. Frinton B 116
Sometime soon, Stoke will host a home tournament, with teams yet to be announced.
