A busy Bank Holiday weekend at Stoke started on Saturday with the Sports Bar packed for the final match of the Championship and to the joy of all assembled, victory for Ipswich and promotion to the Premiership. Who knows what clubs might be choosing to stay at SbN next season !
The Sports bar was buzzing once again on Sunday morning with a packed house assembled for the annual Dick Chalmers Memorial Shield with a shotgun start on Gainsborough.
Meanwhile out on the Constable course, our Thornton Cup team were playing their second round match against Theydon Bois. After a compelling 4 – 1 win in the morning foursomes the singles matches eventually got under way at 2.30pm, however with the course backed up as a result of the early morning fog delay, progress was very slow with the final match finishing just before 8.00pm. Despite a number of the matches being closely contested, Steve Wood’s boys came good and the eventual outcome was a 12 ½ – 2 ½ win to Stoke. Many congratulations to Steve, the players and their caddies and we eagerly await the draw for the next round.
A smaller than usual field took to the Constable course on Bank Holiday Monday for the mixed Jubilee Salvers. With the weather forecast predicting heavy thundery downpours, the field were delighted to finish relatively unscathed with just the occasional light shower. Winners on the day with an excellent 42 points were Matt Eaves and Izzy Scurlock. Second was Ladies Captain Stella Hammond partnered by Matt Peck with a score of 40 points and third with 39 points were Jill and Colin Pottle.
