As the weather starts to improve and the winter comes to an end, the number of members and visitors using our courses will quickly begin to increase.
And, unfortunately, as numbers on the courses increase, so too does the probability of someone suffering a medical emergency while out playing.
Our recent First Aid evening highlighted the need for awareness at all times, but we thought now would be a good time to remind everyone of what to do in the event of a medical emergency – whether it is in your group, or you are close by.
The first and most important thing to remember is that there is an emergency phone number printed on the back of every Stoke by Nayland scorecard. We would ask every member to create a new contact on their mobile phones, with this number 01206 264279, so that it is readily accessible if needed.
This number will ring in several places in the main Resort, and trained first aiders on the staff will know exactly what to do when they answer.
If a medical emergency occurs, ring this number FIRST. Do not ring 999 for the emergency services as the Resort staff are better placed to contact the ambulance service and give them the best directions to the scene of the emergency if needed.
Also, regardless of where you may be on the golf courses, calling this number first, rather than trying to get back to the main buildings for help, will save time, as trained first aiders can reach the scene in a buggy very quickly.
If a defibrillator is needed, all trained Resort staff know where this is kept and are trained in its use.
But remember, this number is for medical emergencies only – please do not use it to report anything else.
