128 Stoke members and guests of the family played in the 6th edition of the Dick Chalmers Shield. Designed as a competition between swindles and groups of friends, in memory of former member Dick Chalmers, who loved the social side of the game.
It brought together teams from all sections of the Club and swindles and groups including the TMS, Seniors, Barely Swinging, Jubilee Plum, Pro Shop, The Hackers, Friends and Family, Past Captains and the aptly named Bandits, who always find a way to be on the leaderboard!
The Sunday Swindle, of which Dick was a member in his playing days, won the team event, with the ProShop second, The Bandits third and The Ladies Team 2 fourth.
The best Mens score was Dan Whiting with an incredible 45 points, Cyril Williams second with 41. The best Ladies score was Hilary Cairns with a superb 38.
There were prizes for nearest the pin and for the best member of the Chalmers family, won by Dick’s grandson Jack, with 37 points.
The day showed Stoke by Nayland at its best. A huge breadth of members, an immense atmosphere before and after golf and amongst the laughter and fun, some golf was played. It is always a fitting tribute to Dick’s memory, he would have loved it, and it is because of the members support that it is the success it is.
Our sincere thanks go to John and Maria Walker for continuing to organise the day with help from Ian McKay and to all of Becky’s Sports Bar staff for a terrific day.
We have collectively raised £1,000 for Prostate Cancer UK, again your support is immense and always appreciated.
