Two completely different weather conditions but the Ladies Silver Team (handicaps 9.5 and above) won both.
Firstly Away at The Heron – very warm conditions with the ball running. The team of Bev Thompson, Jane Golding, Tracey Dickens, Catriona Chaplin and Fran Chandler won 3 : 2, so the trek down the A12 was worth it.
Then just 3 days later, we played The Essex away at their course the day after some torrential downpours.
Much discussion was had between Team Captain, Sue Gregory, and their Team Captain as to whether to cancel the match or not, but their Head Greenkeeper said the course was playable – however our ladies were quite shocked when starting the match. All bunkers were GUR as most were ponds and often it was difficult to find anywhere on the fairway to pick and place the ball without being in standing water.
The team (pictured) was Izzie Stone, Bev Thompson, Jane Golding, Margaret Bentley and Melissa Halfhide. Special thanks to Melissa who stepped in at the last minute and also welcome to Izzie who joined SbN this year and this was her first match for us. We won 3.5 to 1.5. It was 2.5 to 1.5 and we were waiting tentatively for Melissa to come in to know if we had secured the team win. She won on the 17th clinching the point we needed.
We have now won four out of the five we have to play in the League – going into our last one against Colchester this month – wish us good luck!
