The sun shone and despite a nagging wind, a field of 130 members took part in the Captain’s Charity Golf day in aid of the St Helena Hospice.
A number of holes had been generously sponsored by members, who had also donated prizes for the nearest the pins. In addition, professionals Jamie Moul and Simon Dainty had very kindly given their time for free, to take shots on the 7th and 10th holes. The wind caused endless problems on the day, resulting in some very creative and skilful shot making from our two professionals.
Ladies Captain, Stella Hammond very kindly gave up her day, to run a putting competition on the putting green to see who could get their ball within 18 inches of the pin. A draw was made of those successful to win a bottle of bubbly.
Lesley and Peter Garnett, kindly hosted a double your money on the 18th, for those able to keep their ball on the green.
The half way hut was manned by the Captain’s family, with drinks and snacks available, and for those with a sweet tooth, Jelly Babies were handed out by the Captain’s young granddaughters.
Together with an ongoing auction of four balls, in excess of £3.000.00 has so far been raised and I would like to thank all of those members who gave so generously and trust that they had an enjoyable day.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to the following:
