On a dry, but cold and windy day, The Ladies Section held their Spring Meeting on the Constable course.
As the course was so dry the ball was running well on the fairways but also bouncing into some strange places which proved troublesome for some!
As the date coincided with the commemoration of VE Day 80, the Ladies dressed in red, white and blue to mark the occasion and it was lovely to see the flashes of colour dotted around the course.
38 competitors played for our first two major trophies of the 2025 season – the Salcombe Salver for handicaps up to 20.0 and the Suzetta Platt Cup for handicaps above 20.1. Playing format was medal strokeplay where every shot counts.
Some great scores were recorded in both competitions with the Salcombe Salver being won by Melissa Halfhide with a nett 68. Melissa also won this trophy last year so she was obviously reluctant to relinquish her hold! In 2nd place was Mandy Byham (nett 73) and 3rd was Katie Clark (nett 75 on countback).
The Suzetta Platt Cup was won for the first time by Barby Jones with a nett 69. She was closely followed in by Elaine Harris (nett 70) and Sue Gregory (nett 71 on countback).
Best Front 9 prize was won by Liz Kiddy (nett 34) and Best Back 9 was won by Corinne Jackson (also with nett 34).
After their golf the Ladies met in the Gallery Bar for a meal, prize-giving and presentation of trophies by Ladies Captain, Jill Pottle. Red, white and blue attire was again the order of the day for most of the Ladies.
Ladies Vice Captain, Bev Ellender, also kept with tradition in announcing her successor for 2026. The next Ladies Vice Captain will be Liz Kiddy – Congratulations Liz!!
