A charity close to the heart of the Stoke by Nayland community will be more than £5,000 better off after the annual Senior Captain’s Charity Day event.
Seniors Captain, Kevin Price, who is supporting Nayland Community First Responders throughout his year, held his major fund raising event on the Gainsborough Course.
The day started at 7.00 am with coffee/tea, registration, the opportunity to buy raffle tickets and enter a putting competition. There was a shotgun start at 8.30am.
Max Maynard positioned himself on the 7th tee and invited people to participate in a ‘beat the pro’ challenge. Out of 53 entrants, he was only beaten seven times.
After lunch, of lasagne and salad, there was the presentation of prizes, a short delivery by Adam and Corinne of the First Responders followed by an auction. This was made up of various pledges from members of the senior section and SbN’s resident professionals and included numerous fourball vouchers, an aeroplane flight over the local area, fine wine, a hotel voucher and others.
The competition winning team on the day was made up of Malcolm Jones, Tony Reeves, Stuart Lawson and Ray Ludlam with a winning score of 91 points from the best two out of four.
However, the real winners were the First Responders who saw the charity coffers swelled by in excess of £5,500, with the promise of more to come. Adam and Corinne were visibly moved when Kevin announced the provisional total.
A presentation of all the money raised at various events will be made to them at the end of Kevin’s year of captaincy.
The whole event was well organised by Kevin and his group of supporters within the Seniors and once again shows the generosity to be found among the Section.
