Jill Pottle won the Lady Vets Winter League Trophy for the first time by defeating Barby Jones in a closely fought final played on the Gainsborough course.

It was always going to be a tight match with only a 1 shot advantage (in Barby’s favour) between them.

The matches in this competition are only played over 9 holes so players can’t afford to make many mistakes!

Jill took an early lead then a couple of holes were halved to add to the tension.

Barby won her shot hole on the 6th, then the 8th, leaving only a 1 shot advantage to Jill going into the 9th.

With the possibility of extra holes looming Jill sunk a putt for her par to give her the 2 up win.

The match was ably referreed by Bev Ellender, Ladies Vice Captain but, as the match was played in a friendly spirit, there were no disputes requiring her intervention.
